In its fourth year, the prestigious Diversity Council Honors Award™ recognizes and awards the outstanding contributions and achievements of diversity council groups that lead organizational diversity processes and demonstrate results in their Workforce, Workplace and Marketplace. Councils complete and submit a comprehensive application demonstrating Council contributions and achievements in four categories: Demonstrated Council Results; Demonstrated Management Commitment; Measurement and Accountability, and Communication and Education. "This year’s award recipients include seven first time applicant councils and nineteen returning councils. Of those returning, seven improved in the rankings. Award recipients include a diverse combination of corporations, federal government, non profits, municipalities and higher education - representing all sectors, geographies and sizes," reports Philip Berry, Executive Director of the Association of Diversity Councils. Wipro took top honors swapping places with the U.S. Navy who was last year's top recipient. AT&T is the highest debuting entry at the seventh spot. Seven of the twenty five councils have been on the Top 25 list since the Award's origin in 2009. The 2012 Annual Diversity Council Honors Award™ recipients (by rank):
Linda Stokes, President and CEO of PRISM International, Inc, the parent organization of the Association of Diversity Councils says, "For many years, our firm had assisted organizations with their diversity and inclusion initiatives. We recognized early the important contributions and impact which diversity councils, ERGs and other type groups had on their organizations; yet, for all their great efforts there was little national recognition. We wanted to change that." PRISM created a specialized practice - the Association of Diversity Councils – to be a premier resource for diversity and inclusion council professionals. "The goal was to help councils and council members increase their impact and effectiveness in developing, implementing and maintaining an organizational strategic diversity focus; and, to recognize and honor the best practices and efforts, " says Stokes. "This was the basis for the annual Diversity Council Honors Award™." A direct result of the Honors Award process was the launch of this year's 2012 Diversity Council Conference: Enhancing Performance - Increasing Value. "Councils need opportunities to increase their skills and knowledge, "continues Stokes. "This Conference is the only one of its kind…it affords Councils with opportunities to share and learn best practices and gain important insights, knowledge and skills to enhance their Council performance. We want participants to leave with a renewed emphasis on increasing their impact and effectiveness." This year's inaugural conference drew 280 council members representing 80 organizations. Included among the twenty five sponsors were event co-sponsors Walmart and MediaTec. Conference speakers included Conference keynote speaker and author Dr, Steve Robbins and Honors Award Dinner speaker Ken Barrett, Chief Diversity Officer at General Motors.
